| I currently have a sole proprietorship in one IT consulting company. I want to create a LLC for the company. I have multiple domain names, which are not in IT. In the same time, I am also creating another company in a different area of IT then consulting. Can I use the first LLC and then create the other companies and be protected or do I need to create them separately? |

| You could form separate LLCs, but I do not think that it is necessary. You should state the business purpose of your LLC as "I could do anything" instead of having to say that you do IT consulting only. Most of the states allow this so you could form one LLC. As for the other domain names, you could file an assumed trade name certificate for each of them. This is usually done at the local level and it only costs 10 USD per fictitious name filing. Since they all fall under the same LLC, you are protected all the way around. It is a lot cheaper than forming a whole bunch of LLCs. However, if you would rather like to maintain them as separate businesses, you also could form multiple LLCs. If you want to save some money, you should use online incorporation services, because otherwise attorney's fees could be really big. |
