| Dear Tax Adviser, I recently got a registred letter containing a tax assessment on my capital gains. I do not quite understand why. I am a pensioner, why should I pay capital gains tax? Cooming to think of it I actually am quite upset. How dare they tax me - a pensioiner - at all? |

| Dear Irate Pensioner, nobody likes to pay taxes but unfortunately it is one of the two things in life we are sure will happen. Capital gains tax is exactly that: when a gain in the capitl value of an asset occurs, that increase in value or gain, is taxed. This has nothing to do with the age, status gender or whatever else of the owner(s) of the asset. Painful but logic, no? |
