Hi. I have just moved to Ireland from the Uk and I am looking to all the financial issues around this. I have understood that you can get tax relief on medical expenses. Is that true and how does this work? I am hearing something like this for the first time but I must say that is doesn't really surprise me. The Irish government seems well organised and socially orientated.

Yes, is is true indeed. Mind you this only goes if you have not already been reimbursed for the same expenses before by your private health insurer. Otherwise there is a certain amount each year you can get back. The range of expenses on which you can claim back is quite wide and a full list is available from the internal revenue service.
