Hello. I have been hearing about VAT or Value Added Tax... I mean, I kind of knew that the tax was around but never thought about that. Now I am wondering who pays the tax and on what kind of products. Clothing for instance, do I pay tax on that? Please clarify this as I am kind of curious.

Yeah, you pay VAT on almost all of the goods you buy from the shops. This is a tax that the government sets, like all others of course, and currently it is at 17,5 per cent. Firms, and people who have their own firms, can claim the VAT back from the Inland Revenue or offset it against other expenses.
