So we're down to one car, and we all hop in to go to church. Brunch buffet at a local restaurant afterwards, stop at the Bookstore in the same shopping plaza. All hop in the car to head home: IT WON'T START!!! I call a friend for help, he comes with jumper cables: NOTHING. We run across the street for a new battery, install it: NOTHING!

We left it sitting there. I'm ready to give up. I can't take much more of this.

What do you mean by 'nothing'? No lights or anything or that it just won't start when you turn the key?

Even with a dead alternator, it would still start off of a jump.

Ignition Coil? If that's what it is, they're relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

Definitely sounds starter related. They're supah easy to replace. Ours cost $17, so they're cheap too.

to the "click click click" part. I had a POS in college that had this problem (among many, many others... ) It was cheap and quick to fix. But, when I had the starter problem I did have battery power, as in interior lights, etc. So maybe thats not it? dunno

Its sort of humorous that I'm trying to give car advice...

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear your luck. Sad

If you're getting a clicking noise under the hood with a good battery it's the starter solenoid. If interior lights and other electrical items not working or working sporadically you've got a wiring issue, most likely on the positive side of your wiring. Could be as simple as a loose connection to a relay.

well, we replaced the battery right there and still had the click but no turnover. so it sounds like the solenoid.

Call Car Talk. Even if they can't fix it they will at least make you laugh about it. Smile
