I’m helping my girlfriend to prepare for her test and to be honest I don’t know the first thing about the economy and this is not a regular economy but something that deals with macroeconomics and investments. I’d like to know if it possible to perform some evaluation of investments with NPV. What NPV is actually and how to define it?

Oh, how chivalrous you are! I wish my boyfriend is at least half like you and our relationship would flourish, but no! He doesn’t even want to go to watch some chick flick with me, occasionally. Now back to your question. NVP is Net Present Value is something by means of what it is possible to calculate the value of cash in future and see whether an investment can be profitable or not. This is one of the most important way of evaluating investments and some long-time project. I think that the inflation rate and other important macroeconomics parameters. That way investors have at least some kind of insight whether it is wise to invest money into a certain project.
