I want to remove one name from a joint bank account

| Hi there, I wonder if it is possible to remove a name from a joint account. The person I had the account with just took off to another country, and now I cannot find him. Is there a procedure for taking one name off the account, and then to keep it as my account? Thanks in advance for your trouble. |

| Hi. A couple of years ago I had a similar problem, only a bit different. I had a joint account with my best friend, and when we had a terrible argument and we were no longer even on speaking terms, of course I wanted the account closed down. She didnt disappear or anything, she was still living at the same address and the bank statements were arriving at her place. I went to the bank and explained them the situation. They said I could not close the account without permission from my friend, but amazingly they could remove her name from the account and change the address, so their statements would arrive at my place instead. I still have the account now. So I know it is possible to remove a name from a joint account. Just go to the bank and explain them what you need. |
