| I am desperate and hoping that someone can provide me some light within the terrible darkness through which I am passing. I have just split up with my husband who left me with bad catalogue shop and other debts, and now I am bothered by angry creditors on a daily basis. As he has been ordering stuff in my name there is no way they will listen when I say that IT WAS NOT ME DOI ALL THE SPENDING. Is there any way I could write these debts off? |

| You could go bankrupt, but beware, this is a very severe measure and you should not go about doing so without having first got some very comprehensive financial, and more importantly legal advice. The bankruptcy lasts for, I think, five years, during which you have no control over your spending. When you buy a bus ticket or a loaf of bread, or anything else, you will have to justify this to your case officer. They follow every penny you spend. After the bankruptcy ends, you will have trouble even in getting a current account. But you will be debt free. Like I said, this is an "end of the station" solution, but for some, it truly is the only way out. |
