I usually commute to work in my own car and my company pays me the expenses. The usual custom is to show them VAT receipts from a gas station and that’s how you claim mileage. But what if sometimes I lose my VAT receipt? That has happened to me yesterday. Will I be able to claim my mileage? What can I do?

I don’t know. I guess that you can try claiming mileage but, honestly, I don’t think you’ll manage. My suggestion is that you either get a company car so that they’ll fill it with gas, or to commute by train. First of all, such situations are very likely to happen, because I always lose my receipts. Another thing is about the car. Yes, you claim mileage and get money for the petrol you buy, but what about your car? Why would you ruin your car? Who is going to pay service expenses? So, this option you’ve chosen might seem like the most comfortable and practical, but it’s actually damaging your car. I really think so. I’d never go to work in my own car.
