It was very difficult to whittle down over 24 hours of MP3s, but I did it. Here's my mix for the race on Sunday:

September - Earth, Wind, & Fire
Welcome to the Jungle - Guns 'n' Roses
Dirrty - Christina Aguilera
Let It Whip - The Dazz Band
Boogie Wonderland - Earth, Wind, & Fire with the Emotions
Days Go By - Dirty Vegas
New Jack Hustler - Ice-T
Someday Someway - Marshall Crenshaw
Ray of Light - Madonna
Mexican Radio - Wall of Voodoo
Just Another Day - Oingo Boingo
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Low Rider - War
You've Got Another Thing Comin' - Judas Priest
Baby, I'm a Star - Prince
Cotton Eye Joe - Rednex
Dirty Epic - Underworld
Hot in Herre - Nelly
Can U Dig It? - Pop Will Eat Itself
Everybody Wants Some - Van Halen
More More More - Kylie Minogue
Sara - Fleetwood Mac
Vapor Trail - Crystal Method
Enter Sandman - Metallica
Basket Case - Green Day
Ringfinger - Nine Inch Nails
Porcelain (Mix) - Moby
Life During Wartime - The Talking Heads
Roll It Up - Crystal Method

and if I need a little extra time...Ebeneezer Goode - The Shamen

Fan-TAS-tic if I say so myself. Particularly because it starts with "September", whose first line is "Do you remember / The 21st night of September", and the race is on the 21st of September. w00t!

P.S. through 9/30 if you donate to the Get Elkid Rich Quick Fund, you will receive the multi-CD set of this mix as a special thank you for your generous tax deductible gift.

My sentiments exactly!!! The rest isn't half (pun intended) bad though. Some may be a little slow for a run!

All Kid tested, Kid approved. Natural ebbs & flows. I can run faster than a slow tempo, but for some reason can't run slower than a fast one. Yes, I know I am a freak.

Not a freak! You just know what works for you. I have to have very up tempo, preferably rockin' music to run to, otherwise I slow down (which is darn close to walking).

So what's your line when a race official asks you to not wear the headphones? Surprised

Oh, they all say that in Philly but they're full of crap. No one ever enforces that rule, at least the headphones part.

Or the baby jogger, come to think of it Evil or Very Mad

I've never been asked. If they did, I would remove them at least until I was out of their sight. I don't think I've even SEEN a race official except for the start and the finish, and I've run in some pretty big races (up to 10,000 participants). Every race has that rule for insurance purposes, but no one enforces it. I've run three races without music, and only one was tolerable because I ran with someone. Plus I'm so far back in the pack it makes no difference to any contender. Ironically enough, I have never caused a mishap for anyone else, not like the people who do a dead stop at the water stations or at the finish line (yes, I've had to hurdle people more than once to finish safely). Or the walkers who refuse to walk on the left and insist on walking in the "passing lane". Or the babystroller/jogger people. Or the spectators who stand ON THE COURSE waiting for their person to come around. Or the fast runner who laps me on a a double loop out-and-back and then hocks a loogie the size of my friggin' head on my leg or shoe. Or the runners who throw empty gel packs/cups wherever without glancing to see if maybe a person is in the projectile path. I simply pick a line on the road and follow it, plugging along with my tunes. I run a pretty straight line, too, from what I've been told from people drafting off me in races.
