Hi I am a Spiros and this September I am planning to move to Sofia, Bulgaria, for medicine studies. I want to know if it is possible to open a saving account in Bulgaria since I am a foreign student. Moreover, I wonder if the same rules apply for me as for the Bulgarian citizens. I hope that you can help me here.
Hello Spiros. Greetings from Sofia. It is nice to hear that you are planning to come here and study. As for question I have to say that things have changed since Bulgaria entered the European Union nine months ago. Now our banking system is incorporated in wider financial European networks. As a result of this integration you can as a citizen of Greece (which is also a member of EU) open a savings account when ever you want. The interest rates that apply to Bulgarians would apply to you as well. The only thing that you have to bare in mind is the fact that those interest rates can vary from country to country.
