| I have a problem with bond with my new landlord. I am about to sign a six month contract with a new property owner. However, when I asked which scheme the bond would be held in, he says he will not join the official schemes. He told me that the money would be safe in his own account. Is this okay? |

| It is not OK. He has to give you prescribed information within 14 days and, of course, he has to lodge the deposit. If you have not been given the prescribed information, you can still go to court for the sum equal to three deposits. It is the law, even if at a later date he lodges your deposit. You should live there for 6 months, then once you left you should start an action that the prescribed information wasn't given. If he cannot prove this was done, he is stuffed. He had to pay you so you will get the compensation of three deposits. That way, he will get what he was asking for. |
