Well, as far as I know it, both day trading and position trading are types of stock trading. There is also a third kind, called swing trading. Day trading is trading stocks, which is usually limited in timely manner. The transaction is done before the market is closed, during the same day. As for the position trading, it is the trading which has the longest term because stocks can be sold even few months after they were purchased, depending on the state of the market.

Exactly. Both day traders and position traders need to know a lot about the market, and to always be on watch. But day trading is very risky, unless the persons who are involved in it are educated well enough and know how to limit their risk. Thos people buy and sell stocks in really short periods of time, and they most often depend on some information about the price movements. Swing trading is something in between, and it usually means that a trading is finished in few days period.
