Can I ask you all something? Now, with the financial crisis going on and all that, how do you see the future of internet finances? Most people have started online banking years back, and many have decided to opt for accounts with so called internet banks. What is the future of those banks? Are they at risk of collapse?

Yes, I believe that internet banks are at the greatest risk at the moment. This has been already partially proven through the fact that some have stopped existing already. And personally, I would never leave my money in an account with a bank that is not guaranteed for by the government, in this climate!

I thought that all our savings were guaranteed for (here in the United Kingdom at least, for up to £50,000). It does not depend on the bank itself, isn't that right? In answering the question, I do see that internet banks are at risk, and that people would feel uneasy about using them for all kinds of reasons.

No - not every bank is guaranteed for by the government. You can check this somewhere, probably on the Treasury website or some other such place, or by calling up the bank that you are currently using. Only reputable and relatively stable banks are part of the list, so I advise you to check it out.

As we know that all large and mid-sized banks and a growing number of small banks are now offering the facility of online banking, they are going to achieve the greatest impact by the use of this cutting-edge technology. Online banking has become a tool for efficiencies and cost savings and no doubt has a bright future.
