Hello everyone! After seeing a number of my friends and aquaintances being made redundant, some alarm bells have started ringing! In today's increasingly unstable work environment, we can do with all the help we can get! I am wondering whether I would be covered by Unemployment Insurance, as I am doing a part time job. That is not to say that it is not a responsible job in which I work hard. But still... Please advise.
This is actually well known to obe a problem. Only one in five of all part time workers were receiving UI in the 1990s. I am not aware of the current figures but something tells me it is not much better these days. In fact in 23 states they say that people looking for part time work are not seriously looking for a job and are therefore considered not eligable for the UI. Whether this is the case in your state I do not know of course...
