| My boyfriend and I want to visit Spain next month. My whole life I’m dreaming about visiting Spain, and finally, it looks like my dream will come true! We don’t have much money, of course, and my mom told us that we can get some VAT refund over there. What does this means? |

| VAT stands for value added tax, and it is tax on exchanges. VAT is an invisible, tax, connected with the price of an item, and ordinary consumer pays the whole price of an item. You are entitled to claim back VAT if you live outside EU, for all items you wish to take to your country. This tax is called IVA in Spain. However, it is not applicable to restaurants and hotel bills which are considered as consumable, not exportable. This is understandable; you cannot take a hotel and bring it back to your country! You should always request a tax refund check and show them to the Customs at the airport. |
