| My wife and I run a small retail business. We recently hired one firm which supposed to deliver some goods to our new shop. We received the goods, but without VAT receipt, and now I wonder, can we claim back VAT or not? I already tried to talk to the supplier, but without any luck, he keeps promising VAT receipt, but that’s all. What should I do? |

| I would try to trace his VAT registration, to see if he’s VAT registered at all. It looks to me that he’s avoiding you, and that the reason of this attitude is ether irresponsibility, or he’s just not registered and not able to deliver any VAT receipt. You should check this person’s business history before hiring him. But, I believe that if you can prove that you asked for receipt, there’s nothing to worry about. What’s important is that you acted in good faith and you have nothing to hide. You should try to speak to the authorities; they can be very helpful sometimes. There is also the possibility of business insurance coverage. |
