| Hello everybody! My son Tim has just turned 18 years and my wife and I decided to give him our old BMW as a birthday gift. It means that we need to get some new car for ourselves. After careful consideration, we opted for a new vehicle instead of the used one. We’d like to get us some nice, small and efficient car, which we would use in town for the most of time. What I would like to know is more about taxes. So, please give me some vehicle purchase tax info. Thank you all! |

| Hello. In my opinion it is always better to buy a new car, instead of the used one, because you never know what you can get for your money. This way you have some guarantee that your car won’t stop after only couple of weeks. You already know that you have to register your newly bought vehicle at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing agency. If it’s the first registration, as in your case, you will be obliged to pay a 50 pounds fee. There are few exemptions, but you do not qualify for any one of them. In addition to this fee, you will have to pay a vehicle tax. Vehicle tax depends on the type of fuel it uses and the CO2 emission and it can go up to 300 pounds. So, before you decide which car to buy, check its CO2 emissions cause, higher the emission, higher the tax. |
