| Hello! I recently sold my home and moved to another city because of my job. Now, my family and I live in one house which we are renting. My landlord is giving me a very hard time. He always has something to say to me about the living in his house. He is bothering me too much and he is disturbing me all the time. Is this legal? I would like to know what landlord's responsibilities are and what my responsibilities are as a tenant too. |

| When you are a tenant, your landlord has certain responsibilities. The procedures vary depending on the type of the tenancy you have but basic rules are always the same. You must have signed some kind of the rental agreement. A rental agreement is the contract which basically defines terms as the price paid, the length of the rental and amount of notice required. In general, the responsibilities of the landlord are repairs and maintenance, providing adequate locks and keys, maintaining of the structural components of the dwelling. A landlord is not responsible for paying the costs of correcting problems which are caused by the tenant. When you decide to move out it is important to give an appropriate notice to your landlord. If you leave before the lease expires you will have to pay the rent for the remainder of the lease. Landlords are not supposed to disturb you in any way. If there is any need for repairs the landlord must ask you for your permission. Your landlord must let you live in your home without unnecessary interference. |
