I recently finished my studies and got myself a new job. Now my parents help me to rent a place to start a life on my own. After I received my first salary my father told me to pay a special attention to ordinarily pay my bills for my flat. He told me that I should go to bank and issue a cheque book for that. I did it, but when I wrote my first check my bank made a mistake. My money was transferred to some other account, which by the way, was not signed on cheque. Bank officials told me that I have to wait till the money returns. Do I have rights to complain? What happens when a bank makes a mistake?

Main thing about solving your problem is if you have a receipt or not. If you do, then you can prove that it was their error. Then you have every right to demand return of your money from them. For solving your problem you should speak to the branch manager who is responsible. If he doesn't resolve it, you should demand his boss's name. If you also threaten them that you will sue the bank for the damage, I'm sure that they will become very cooperative and that they will resolve your problem as soon as possible. But if you made an error when you wrote an account on the cheque then you might be in one of those situations. First is when this wrongly named account doesn't really belong to anybody. If you write on your cheque account that doesn't really exist the sum will be soon return to your account. But if you accidentally wrote somebody else account than your money will automatically goes to this person. Because this is legally your money, you should ask that person to give it back to you. If hi don't know, you must explain to him that legally, if it shows that any person knows that somebody else's money has been paid in his account, that person has an obligation to report that to the bank officials.
