Hi. I have just moved to Ireland with my partner, from London, and we will be here for at least a year due to work reasons. For now we have rented a flat for a year in the centre of Dublin. If it all works out we might stay. A friend of ours recently mentioned something about Capital Acquisitions Tax that might have to be paid. Can anyone tell me what this is please?

Welcome to Ireland I would say and have jolly good time here. Dublin is great fun, as I am sure you will come to realise. Mind you, I have been to London once and I had such a deadly time I can't remember a 'ting about it. Anyway lad, as you were asking, I think that Capital Acquisitions Tax would be called Capital Gains Tax in your part of the world.
