What is the difference between purchasing and supply chain management?

| Dear all. I have been hearing that supply chain management is THE way to solve the problems in inventory and distribution. Can you tell me more about what needs to be done and what the options are? And why is just this the answer? What is the difference between this and purchasing management? |

| If that is indeed a serious question for you and your company then that may well be the explanation as to why you are facing such problems. You are comparing apples to pears here, and these two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Go back to business school, is my advice. |
