http://ca.us.biz.yahoo.com/rb/030909/airlines_lawsuits_13.html

while we're getting ready to sue the airlines for not being ready for terrorist attacks that the gov't wasn't even prepared to deal with, i think i'm going to outline my case against all media giants for providing me with images and ideas and articles that only seem to be making me cynical of the world, and at time not a very nice person. i wouldn't be so opinionated if people weren't so stupid.

who's with me?

Am I the only one thinking these lawsuits are only going to further bury a struggling airline industry, increase insurance rates for everybody, create a whole lot of money for the attorneys and not bring much closure to those who lost lives. Not that there's anyway to ever put a pricetag on a life, but the federal compensation fund is averaging $1.5million per 911 death and weren't those Red Cross checks around $55,000. My heart just tears for those losing loved ones but this doesn't seem right.

They should be going after the organizations and countries that harbor these assclowns. Let them pay, not the airlines.

i think this i stupid. how can they say the airline industry was responsible? of course they were unprepared...do those families think that this is really just some big plot against them? i agree with cappy, sue the agiencies that support those kinds of people...

and besides, havent those families had enough? i dont know anyone who knew anyone so i can only imagine how difficult it must have been. but how can you move on with your life if youre trying to make a lawsuit against the airlines? its been two years...arent some people just ready to; i hate to put it this way; just get over it and move on? i think they are just prolonging their own suffering...

This whole idea of suing people for the stupidest things has got to come to a halt. It's a waste of time and money. I believe there needs to be a law that says if I sue somebody and fail to prove my case that I should have to pay that person a set amount for their time that I've wasted and their attorney fees. There are so many frickin' frivolous lawsuits out there it's bogging down our justice system.

While it's true the airlines are not the ones to sue, that is one of the most insensitive, offensive things I've read in a long time. There's a big difference between some idiot suing McDonald's because the hot coffee they stupidly put between their legs burned them and having your loved ones burned alive in a fiery plane crash.

I don't think anyone who has ever lost someone, regardless of how or why, ever Gets Over It. You endure it, you accept it hopefully, and you do move on, but you never get over it.

I also don't think that airlines and world trade center owners or whatever should be sued for a number of reasons, but I suppose the prevailing one for me is that this wasn't any one organizations fault. Yes, airline security is lacking. The thing is though, at least in my insignificant opinion, is that if bad people want to do bad things, they will find ways. We cannot keep our own bad guys in check, the ones who murder, rape, etc. How in the hell can we police everyone in the world? Beef up security, I'm all for that, but people can be bought, even americans, so this could have happened even with more stringent guidelines, for the right price and the right (or wrong) type of person.

Waging war on terrorism is a good idea, but it's something that we will never eliminate. People hate us. All nations will never be united, and bad things will continue to happen.

September 11 (both of them) and other dates that we remember for those who have died for whatever reason, are hard to get through, and I think we need to remember here that we're all on the same side.

I didn't make myself clear Elkid. I wasn't insinuating there was anything stupid about losing loved ones in a plane crash. I'm saying that this country is sue-happy and that I think it's ridiculous. Why the hell should anybody be sued over a terrorist act other than the terrorists themselves or the ones who harbor and finance them?

i wasnt trying to be mean with the "get over it" comment...believe me, i know you never get over the death of a loved one, especially as violent as 9/11 was...

i just cant imagine why the families involved with the suit would even want to be doing that. it seems to me that it would only prolong their suffering... just my two cents.

As I understood it the victim's surviviors had two choices if they sought compensation, the federal compensation fund or a lawsuit. If they agreed to accept the fund's award they were precluded from filing any lawsuits againt the airlines, port authority or anyone else.

So these lawsuits, I assume, are filed by survivors who didn't like what the fund was offering for their loss and want to take their chances in court.

Some quotes say though "It's not about the money. It's about getting the truth." As if a court case is going to suddenly create a hailstorm of coverups by airlines and the feds. I still believe it's about the money. But it's about the money for litigators that are hoodwinking these people into going to court and getting a piece of the pie.

Not that i feel comfortable agreeing with any large company saying they aren't liable, but really....the last paragraph and sentence of that article was exactly right. The only people responsible are the terrorists themselves.

Shoot. I think i'm gonna sue someone for the murder of John Lennon.
