For almost a year I’m trying to gather some courage to ask for a pay raise. This is something I cannot talk with my colleagues about and I need your help. I’m sure that some of my colleagues asked and received a raise but I simply cannot find a nice way to do the same. Did anyone have similar experience?

Many employers wait to be approached before giving a raise to their employee. I don’t agree with this tactics personally because I believe that raise is something you either deserve or not. I got my raise after asking for it and besides the fact that I was civilized, I felt like I’m asking for a gift, not something I deserved with my hard work. But, don’t be scared, I’m sure that every way you’ll think of will be nice. The most important thing is to approach your boss at the right moment and only when you’re sure that he will have few minutes for you. You don’t want him to say that he’s not available and that you should wait, because after a while he will forget that you wanted to talk to him and you’ll have to start the whole story again.
