| How much does running a household cost? Maybe it seems like a strange question, so I will elaborate! My husband and I are saving for a house deposit. Our living costs are very low at the moment. We are living at his parent's house, to save as much as we can. We do pay them board, but they obviously do not tell us a real sum. We also buy our own food, and we have a small car. Those are our only really significant costs, which we have for now. That is why I want from somebody to tell me what our expenses will be, when we buy the house? |

| Council taxes changes from area to area, size of house etc. My council tax is 135 pounds a month for a two-bed cottage in my neighborhood. It is the same thing with the car insurance. First, it depends on the area you live in, but also if you are garaged or on the street parking, size of engine, how long you have held a license etc. Utilities depend on the area and size of house. The only OS aspect of your budget would probably be food and cleaning. My expenses for family of 5 looks something like this: mortgage 500 pounds pm, food and household - 75 pounds pw, TV license - 11 pounds pm, gas - 25 pounds pm, phone - 10 pounds pm, electric - 25 pounds pm, water - 15 pounds pm, petrol - 200 pounds pm and credit cards - 50 pounds pm. As you see, expenses are quite large. Therefore, if you are happy in your parent's house and they are happy to have you there, my advice to you is to stay as long as you can and save as much as you can. |
