I have recently wanted to sell a house. I will be moving to another area of the town because of my work and I could also use some extra money. However, I would like to get an advice about when do I pay the estate agent I hire. Do I pay him something in advance, or not? If anyone could help me, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Estate agents do not get paid like most of the people do, through regular paychecks. They do not earn some fixed amount of money. Instead, they get percentage of money for which they manage to sell a house to some client of theirs. That means the more they sell, the more they earn, and the more expensive houses they sell, they get paid better. All that means that you absolutely do not need to pay your agent anything until he sells your house. However, you need to see with him what percentage he charges for its services. Best of luck with selling your house.
