The Internet brings a great opportunity for various types of online business, as well as it offers opportunity to grow and increase revenues of that business. Online advertising is necessary tool in order to fulfill that task. Knowing its pros and cons can help your business succeed.

Many people who are starting online business, seem to think that if they just build a web site people will come. But Internet business is more than that. For successful business on the web, the most important thing is well developed web site that will present the products and services in the best light.
The second important thing is developing a search engine marketing campaign which includes search engine optimization, paid inclusions, and Pay-per-Click and through the Online advertising.

The most common concept of the Online advertising is through the ads on your web page. The most standard types are banners placed horizontally or vertically on your page. Also, there are more effective type of ads, packed in the form of pop ups, pop unders or other forms of so called intrusive ads.

This type of advertising is more efficient because intrusive ads are more noticeable (they pop up in front of your nose, usually are Flash animated,...) and gain bigger revenue than standard banners.

However, despite the fact that this type of advertising through the pop ups and intrusive ads is necessary in order to raise traffic and help the online businesses, it has some bad aspects that can sometimes drove away the potential customers and business partners.

First of all there is customers’ reaction. Many studies have shown what the most people dislike when they’re faced with pop ups and intrusive ads. That includes:

  • Pop-ups
  • Slow load times
  • "Teasing" links, misleading categories, and other elements that trick users into clicking
  • Content that doesn't clearly state the site's purpose or what a particular page covers
  • Content that moves around the page and covers what we want to see
  • Sound that plays automatically

Second, many of these ads have scripts in them that can make browsers non-responsive or even crash them.

Finally, because these ads are so annoying, there are now many tools available to block pop-up ads. Mozilla Firefox and Opera have built-in pop-up blockers.
That basically means that you put your effort in the advertising for nothing. Nobody will see it.

But, if you’re still interested in pop ups and intrusive ads as a way of Online advertising, then you should know and try to apply what the most people like about them.

People like when Pop Ups:

  • Indicate what will happen if people click on them
  • Relate to what people are doing online
  • Identify themselves as advertisements
  • Present information about what they are advertising
  • Provide additional information without having to leave the page

As a conclusion, we can say that you cannot leave a bit aggressive ways of advertising aside. Without them, there is no real success on the Internet. Nobody will pay attention on banners, especially if they don’t carry an interesting and attractive message. Shiny ads, pop ups and intrusive ads can be very useful for your business.
However, you should know the right dosage and how to implement aggressive ads on moderate level.
Otherwise, if you exceed with the load of intrusive ads on your website, people that come to your site will turn their back on you for sure.
