approx 9 years ago my mother signed over the deeds of her small house to her 2 daughters. this was done so that any future care home fees could be avoided. she moved ut of the house 3 years ago and died in residential care last year. the house was sold fter she left it and the sum of 60k was split equally between the 2 daughters. should this be treat as a gain and should the Inland revenue be notified? As it was my mother still spent the majority of her savings on care fees and it feels unfair that efforts to protect her property euity may not do so
